New Construction and Concealed Protection
Concealed Equipment for Residential,
Commercial and Industrial.
The nationwide trend to new home construction in cities and in suburban and rural areas
is one that suggests the Concealed System. Concealed Lightning Protection must be
installed during construction. Conductor Cables, grounds, and metal interconnections are
inconspicuously coursed as the construction progresses. Air terminals (points) are slender
and only 12" tall to blend in with the architecture, and are designed to be
inconspicuous. Tree protection may be required when the home is built in natural
setting.
DETAILS OF CONCEALED INSTALLATION
Concealed Installation - On new construction, conductors are coursed
along the studding and rafters during framing, in the same manner as plumbing or electric
wiring, as shown in the typical example above.
Semi-Concealed Installation - On completed buildings, the conductors
are hidden by placement along ridge rolls, behind verge boards, spouting, and in other
ways, utilizing special fittings for the purpose. There is no damage to the structure and
the system is inconspicuous.
Ornamental Points - Ornate points are available on both concealed and
semi-concealed systems. Owners are demanding something different - ornamental,
distinctive. Modern day architecture lends itself for wrought iron effect ornaments to
enhance the appearance of long, plain, ranch type ridges and flat roofs.
Aluminum and Copper - Either of these metals is acceptable for
lightning protection systems, but should never be used together without special
connectors. Aluminum parts are made heavier and larger to have the same conductivity as
copper. There are precautions to be observed in the use of either metal. We will gladly
advise on the most suitable choice for any specific condition.
